Text Box: Passport Band History… 1992 to Present

In 1992, Jim Templeton called Gord Miller to ask if he was interested in singing & playing keyboards in a new band he was trying to form with some other Winnipeg friends. Gord decided to give it a shot and "Passport" was born! Mike Przednowek (guitar, vocals), Jim Templeton (bass, vocals) and Fred Marych  (drums, vocals) completed the original Passport lineup in 1992.

Vaughn Smith became the band's drummer in June 1993.  In September of 1995 Mike left the band and Terry Tosky was hired to take his place.   In May 1997, Terry left and was replaced by Larry Laker, a long-time Winnipeg musician who brought a distinctive vocal style and synth-guitar sounds to the band.  Rob Busch, Wally Kostiuk & Devin Gereau also provided drum support between 1994 & 1997. Gene Silvaggio also provided guitar support in 1994.

When Jim and Vaughn moved on to pursue other interests in December 1997,  Kerry Hannah and Greg Kirton joined up on bass and drums respectively. Doug Pylatuik also provided Bass support in 1998. In April 1998, Brian LeClair became a permanent member of Passport - Brian's consummate saxophone skills added a very special touch.  In January 1999, Larry went on to other things and Gord, Kerry, Brian and Greg continued on as a four-piece, and sometimes a three-piece sans Brian.

In November 1999 Gord moved to Whitby and started a second Passport Band in his home province of Ontario. Gord carried on as Lead Vocalist, Lead Guitar & Keyboards; new member Phil Ferguson brought his genuine British Invasion drumming style to the group and Eric Pulst contributed a powerful foundation to Passport on bass. In May 2001, Blaine McKenzie--a long-time rocker from Toronto--joined Passport as piano/guitar and vocalist.   Blaine stayed with the band until February 2002 and continues to sit in with the band on occasion.    Throughout 2002, Phil Ferguson, Terry Beauclerc, Peter Somers & Mike McCarty  each sat on the drum throne with the band. For a short time in 2004, Brian Jones joined the band on Guitar and Vocals.
In April 2005 Eric Pulst left Passport after 5 years with the band. In May 2005 Passport played the Grand Hotel in Lindsay for a benefit concert for dear departed friend Frank Sabovitch. With old friend John Steele joining the band on Bass and Vocals, the night was a huge success.

In August 2005 John Woodhouse joined the band full time on bass and vocals, and Tony Callahan is added as second Guitarist and Vocalist. On July 1, 2006 Phil Ferguson played his last gig as a permanent member of Passport at Ontario Place to an huge & appreciative crowd.  Phil's length of time with the band is second only to Gord's, and his contributions and great attitude will surely be missed.
In July 2006   Roger Humphries became a member of Passport, bringing with him a lifetime of experience in music. In March 2008 Brian Lobo joined Passport for several gigs as Keyboardist.

In May 2008 Dave Drage joined the band on rhythm guitar, mandolin, harmonica and vocal.
