A Mongoose is an animal kept as a pet in some parts of the world where
snakes are a constant threat.

In the days before digital recording, a very major challenge in multi-tracking
(overdubbing while recording to allow one person to play several instruments
or vocals on the same song)was avoiding or eliminating "tape hiss". Snakes
hiss. Mongoose eat snakes. Therefore....

Mongoose has always been a creative outlet for myself and whomever
decided to come along for the journey. Over the years, the projects sometimes
had different names for awhile (eg. "Nodd, or Noddy"), but it always came
back to the pseudonym of "Mongoose" in the end. It was a way of exploring
through the creative writing and recording process with some perspective in
mind. For example if the projects were "Gord Miller" projects, I probably
wouldn't have been able to mix so many other influences, singers and
musicians into the final outcomes.

Using the umbrella of "Mongoose" enabled a de-personalization of sorts for
the betterment of the final recording product. Having so many great friends and
musicians to write songs with has enriched my life beyond imagination.

Why do I write and record music?

Why not?

I believe it is a personal diary of sorts, an expression of one's life and travels,
and a mirror of the times we journey through - and a lot of fun.
